Open Play FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your Open Play visit. Still have questions? Chat with us or call (908) 428-8141.

🧭
Is It Right For Us?
Is Space Play Academy a good fit for a 1-year-old?

Yes — the toddler side is built for exactly that age. Little Dippers is a soft, enclosed zone for ages 0–4, the Carousel is a gentle ride-on for ages 1–6, and Mission Control (building blocks and family games) works at any age. Kids under 2 play free alongside a paid sibling. Weekday mornings are the calmest time to bring a very young child.

What is there for older kids, ages 8 to 12?

Plenty. The Command Tower is a multi-level climbing maze for ages 4–12, the Deep Space Maze has tunnels, swings, slides and spinners across the same range, the Cosmo Coaster is an obstacle course into a foam pit for ages 5–10, and the Solar Slideway is LED-lit racing slides into the ball pit. Bigger kids head straight for the tower and the maze.

Is this a good rainy-day or snow-day option?

That is most of why we exist. It's 5,600 square feet indoors and climate-controlled, so rain, snow and heat waves make no difference to what's happening inside, and we're open Tuesday through Sunday. On a genuinely miserable weekend day we do fill up — book ahead.

My child gets overwhelmed easily. Is it sensory-friendly?

We're not a sensory-specific facility, but several things help. The 9–11 AM session on Saturday and Sunday is our quietest by a wide margin, weekday mornings are calmer still, and every session is capacity-capped so the room never goes past a set number. We also host free sensory-friendly community events with Luna's Light on the Spectrum. Call us on (908) 428-8141 before you come and we'll tell you honestly how busy a given morning looks.

How much does a visit actually cost for two kids?

On a weekday, $35 +tax — $20 for the first child and $15 for the second, with up to two adults included. On a weekend, $45 +tax — $25 for the first child and $20 for the second, with one adult included. A child under 2 plays free alongside a paid sibling, and session packs bring the per-visit cost down about 20% if you come regularly.

How long do families usually stay?

A session is 2 hours, which is about right for most kids before they're ready for a snack and a nap. On weekdays when we're not at capacity we keep it relaxed and nobody is rushing you out; on busy weekends we hold the 2-hour window so every family gets a turn.

When is the quietest time to come?

Weekday mornings, Tuesday to Friday, are the calmest overall. On weekends the first session, 9–11 AM, is much quieter than the rest of the day and everyone's out the door before lunch. When you book, tap the calendar icon beside the date picker to see how full each day is.

🎟
Booking & Your Visit
What do I need to know before my first Open Play visit?

Open Play is for kids ages 1–12, with everything from a dedicated toddler area to 7 full play zones for bigger kids. A few quick things: every adult needs a signed waiver (do it online before you come to skip the line), kids need non-slip grip socks, and on weekends you'll want to book ahead — those slots fill fast. Then just show up ready to blast off. 🚀

Do I need a reservation, or can I just walk in?

Weekdays (Tue–Fri), walk-ins are always welcome — no reservation needed. Weekends fill quickly, so booking ahead is the only way to be sure of your slot — but if we have space when you arrive, walk right in. When you book, tap the calendar icon beside the date picker to see how full each day is: green means plenty of room, yellow means it's filling up.

How long is a play session?

Sessions are 2 hours. On weekdays when we're not at capacity, we keep it relaxed — no one's rushing you out the door. On busy weekends we hold to the 2-hour window so every family gets a turn.

What's your cancellation and refund policy?

All reservations are fully refundable as long as you let us know at least 1 hour before your session start time — we'll issue it as store credit in the form of a gift card. No-shows are non-refundable.

Heads up: your session starts at your reserved time, not when you arrive, so plan to get here a little early to make the most of your 2 hours.

Can we leave and come back during our session?

If you need to run out to the car for something you forgot, you're welcome to step out and come right back. Just remember your 2-hour session keeps running while you're out — so don't go far!

Where are you located, and is there parking?

We're at 315 Roycefield Road, Suite 123, Hillsborough, NJ — look for the Pickleball Kingdom sign; we're on the inside corner of the L-shaped building. Parking is free and shared with the other businesses in the plaza.

Do you host birthday parties?

We sure do — space-themed parties with a dedicated host and zero cleanup for you. We're booking through the end of the year, holiday weeks included. Check out our party packages.

💳
Pricing & Payment
How much does Open Play cost?

One price covers 1 child + their grown-up(s).

  • Weekday (Tue–Fri): $20 +tax per child (includes up to 2 adults)
  • Weekend (Sat–Sun): $25 +tax per child (includes 1 adult)
  • Additional siblings save $5 each ($15 weekdays, $20 weekends)
  • Kids under 2 play free with a paid sibling

Here often? Memberships and multi-session passes bring the per-visit cost way down.

Do adults have to pay?

Your child's admission already includes their grown-up(s) — up to 2 adults on weekdays and 1 on weekends. Each additional adult is $10 +tax. Every adult who joins takes up space that could go to another child, so we ask that anyone coming in is there to participate in the play. And don't forget — every adult needs a signed waiver on file.

Do you accept cash?

We do — just please bring exact change. Nearly all of our transactions are digital, so we keep very little cash in the drawer and often can't break a large bill.

Keeping cash to a minimum is also cleaner and safer for our staff and guests, so card or online booking is the quickest way through the front desk.

Why is there a service fee?

Every online booking adds a small service fee. It covers secure online payment processing, our booking system, and reservation management — the things that keep checkout quick and your spot held until you arrive.

The fee is non-refundable and applies to all transactions.

What's this Membership thing?

We offer both memberships and multi-session passes that drop your per-visit cost well below the walk-in rate — perfect if you're here more than a couple times a month. Find them here.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes — and they make a stellar birthday or holiday gift. Find them here. 🎁

My gift card isn't working

If you bought it before February 2026, it was migrated to our new system and reissued with a new code — the original one no longer works. The replacement went out by email, so start with your inbox (check spam too).

Can't find it? Start a chat and we'll send you a fresh one. Your balance is safe either way.

🧦
What to Bring & Wear
What is a waiver?

It's the short form we ask you to sign before anyone plays — the same one every indoor playground uses. It says you understand that climbing, sliding, and jumping come with the usual risk of bumps and scrapes, and that you'll stay and supervise your child during the visit.

Every adult entering the facility signs one, and the adult who brings a child signs on that child's behalf. It takes about a minute — sign it online before you come and you'll walk straight in instead of filling it out at the front desk.

What's the deal with socks?

Non-slip grip socks are required for all kids — any brand works. Forgot a pair? We sell them at the front desk for $3 +tax. Adults, please keep socks on inside the play areas too.

What should we wear, and where do we put our belongings?

Dress your kiddo in comfy clothes they can move and climb in, plus their non-slip grip socks. Please leave jewelry, AirPods, and similar accessories at home — small things tend to get lost during all the action.

For your stuff, we've got cubbies and beach bags to stash shoes, coats, and bags while you play.

What about strollers?

Indoor space is limited and strollers aren't allowed in the play area. If you're bringing a little one, the bassinet attachment is the easiest thing to carry in.

Can I bring my own snacks and drinks?

Yes! Outside snacks and drinks are welcome in our seating area — pack your kids' favorites. We just ask that no food or drinks go inside the play zones to keep them clean and safe for everyone.

Do you sell any drinks or snacks?

You're always welcome to bring your own — but if you forget, we've got you. We sell chilled drinks: Honest Juice, Gatorade, and water for the kids, plus regular Coke and Diet Coke for the grown-ups.

🛟
Rules, Safety & Cleanliness
Can I drop my child off?

Open Play is not a drop-off — a parent or guardian stays and supervises throughout the visit. (Looking for drop-off-style time? Ask us about field trips and group bookings.)

Can someone other than a parent bring my child?

Absolutely — any adult can bring your child, whether it's a grandparent, the cool uncle, a nanny, or a babysitter. They just need a signed waiver on file and to stay and supervise during the visit.

What if my child isn't fully potty-trained?

If you've got a diaper-wearing hero, please check their diaper a few times during your visit to avoid any incidents. Kids who aren't fully potty-trained should be in diapers while they play.

Need to do a quick change? We have 2 changing stations — one in each bathroom — stocked with diaper bags and linens for your convenience.

A cleaning fee applies if there's an accident without a diaper or from an overflow — it helps us keep the zones spotless for the next crew.
What if my child is feeling sick?

Please keep your little one home if they've shown signs of fever, vomiting, or a pronounced cough. If you have a reservation, just let us know — we'll gladly issue a credit so you can come play another day.

How do I know everything's clean?

We tidy and sanitize daily, and every few hours on high-traffic days. Once a week we do a full deep clean — including washing the ball pit (we posted how we do it on our Instagram!). We use Force of Nature to knock out germs while keeping things safe for even the littlest astronauts.

The Field Trip They'll Talk About.
The One You Won't Stress About.

Safe, active, imaginative play designed for young explorers — and a structured group experience designed to make field-trip day easier for teachers. We run trips all year long, rain, snow, or heat wave.

Our preschoolers talked about Space Play Academy long after we got back to school. What I loved as a teacher was that they were getting so much out of the experience without realizing they were learning—they were climbing, taking turns, problem-solving, pretending, and exploring independently. The space was clean, organized, and easy for our teachers to supervise, so we could actually enjoy watching the children play instead of feeling stressed trying to keep everyone together. It was a great field trip for this age group, and we would definitely come back.
